Construction industry to suffer labour shortage
In 2015 the Russian construction industry may suffer a workforce deficit of 22%, according to Russia’s Economic Forecasting Institute (INP).
At present supply exceeds demand by about 8-9%, according to INP in its “Labour Shortage” report. However, by 2015 the shortage in the Russian economy will reach 10.3% (if the economy and labour productivity continue to grow by 6-7% and 5-6% respectively). If labour productivity grows more rapidly, the labour shortage could be less severe (5.4%), and if the economy expands more rapidly, the deficit in Russia may reach 22.6%.
The labour shortage will be at its worst in construction, and this will not be resolved by an influx of immigrant workers, according to INP.
